My new home

Well, it's been quite an adventure! Lots of ups and downs, nice places and disappointments. We've watched a few places we've loved get sold before we had a shot to put and offer on them. So this weekend we had lined up some more hopeful spots which were reasonable in price and had potential. Well fate came in a the owner of the house we where supposed to see decided to have an open house Saturday. That meant our Friday viewing was canceled - crap. Then a few of the places we wanted to see Saturday flaked out (non-responsive to a call for viewing).

We did get the idea that we should look at new home development from our agent a few days ago. We saw a place which was brand new (still a resale) and in our price range! Now the owner was a dick, and wasn't going to budge on the price, nor include any appliances (he's even taking the built in dishwasher). So we took a pass - but it was hard.

In any case, we went to see some new homes instead of the listing we wanted to originally see this Saturday. So we went to Minto home builders, and took a look at a model called the 'Manhattan'. We fell in love with the design and floor plan (the upgrades a nice too, but we won't have many of them) - and the price of the place is slightly less than most re-sale homes!

We're super excited about our home (it's being built right now). One issue is that we'll have to wait until Jan 18th, 2007 to move in. It's a compromise but it's worth the wait (and only an extra month of rent). So we decided to put an offer in onto the house, and find that there is already a condition offer holding it. We were again saddened, and were about to walk away, when the Minto guy said, if we put a firm offer in, the previous people would have 24hrs to either firm up their offer or let it go. I asked what the condition was in the offer, and the Minto guy said it was selling their existing home.

So we ran back home, grabbed the check book and beelined it back to the office. Cut the check and hoped we would get the house. I had high confidence that if the condition was on the sale of a previous place, and they had not firmed up their offer that meant that they had not sold their house yet. And the best part was that banks are closed Sun, so unless they had the cash to plop down it was ours.

So we waited, and waited and waited for the 24hr period to come and 10 minutes before the 3pm deadline, we got a call. I ran over and the caller ID said Minto - I got pretty nervous. I answered, and the guy told me that the other people gave up and the place was ours! So we hot footed it over to the Minto sales office and signed the final papers.

Pheeew! Now that the house part is taken care of, here comes the waiting.... ah crap - this is going to be hard.
