It's a plane, no a train, no it's the Superstore! - opps, no it's not.
Stopped by the Barrhaven Loblaws for the first time; Britgal and I took a nice drive out in the sun. So we stopped by the grocery store to pick up some nice last minute items for dinner (tomatoes, avocados etc) and I found something that struck my curiosity. I love my cooking arsenal which is mostly stainless steel, but there are times when a non-stick surface would make things a little easier (eggs). I truely loath most of what is out there in the reasonable range (non-stick doesn't last long) as they are made cheaply and have plastic handles and they are not secured to the pan/pot very well. Well Loblaws PC brand have a set of pots which are anodized aluminum and non-stick! I don't think I need the set, which is $150, but a fry pan, a pot perhaps to cover the few cases a non-stick weapon would be best. So I bought a small sauce pan (pretty small, so I can cook the individual sized baked bean tins Britgal loves) to give it a go. The pot seems well built, quite hefty and the handle is riveted on the pot. Plus the handle has the hole on the end makes it easy to hang up. I think if it works out well, I'll try to find the 12" fry pan (as I don't have a 12" fry pan) which I could use to make fried eggs, omelettes etc.
One issue I had, was that some idiot thought it would be great to actually firmly stick the label onto the pot on the inside and on the bottom with full out adhesive! I had to soak, and soak and soak and scrub, and soak, a soap and scrub that sticker off. It did come off, but sweet merciful jebus was it hard. I hope the fry pan doesn't preset the same kind of battle.
It appears the pot rack mission has been kyboshed, but I may be able to get a hanging basket to hold some of the garlic, onions, potatoes and other regularily chopped produce. This would keep it near the block and out of our drawers; which also would make it easy to keep an eye on it. Funny enough, it was hard to find one while we were in Barrhaven - I believe there one at Ikea, but I can't seem to find it online.
